Disclaimer: This is an independent review of a vape device kindly provided to me by Healthcabin and is not associated with Planet Of The Vapes or any other organisation. The opinions here are purely my own and I am not receiving any payment or inducement for them. Let’s get started the Uwell Tripod Review.

Good things come in small packages, that’s what they say isn’t it? If that’s true then this new Uwell device is going to be very good because it’s titchy – really, really titchy.

Not that you’d know it from the packaging though because the box is sturdy and relatively normally sized.

It’s only once you get into it that you realise just how tiny it is.

The box and bumf tell you it only has a 380mah internal battery and a supplementary power bank though so you’d expect it to be quite small, but I wasn’t prepared for quite how small it is – or light.

At 21.5 x 10.4 x 78mm, it occupies almost nothing, and you barely even know you’ve got it in your hand – I’ve held heavier lollipops than this. Although not recently of course, they’ve shrunk in the last few years, but when I was young… Then again, everything seemed bigger when I was young…

It’s the 1000mah supplementary external battery that gives it the initial slightly false impression of size and parity though.

Although it shouldn’t. The box itself is all pretty self-explanatory and the power bank is only 34.5 x 94mm in itself.

The concept of a power bank isn’t a new one. It’s been done before and is more reminiscent of the old cig-a-likes than modern pods though where you could purchase separate battery charging cases, but it hasn’t been done recently.

Power banks are also quite common for tech-geeks and Twitch vloggers too for when they need to get through a full day without risking going off screen – and that would be a disaster if we couldn’t see them wouldn’t it?

This power bank isn’t for carrying though, it’s for charging. You put it in your car or on your desk for a quick top-up when you need to.

It’s also quite useful for me because it gives me something else to forget.

I like forgetting things. I must do. I do it often enough.

As for the rest of the kit, it’s all pretty formulaic and newbie friendly but high quality and well thought out as you’d expect from Uwell. They don’t tend to miss things.

It comes in a simple, thick box with just the unit on display and has a nice plastic top and foam liner to cover it.

You get the usual stuff like a USB cable – in this case a USB Type-C cable, which is useful because that’s what sort of receptacle the pod has, so it’s a perfect match for the 1.5 amp charge draw.

You also get a user manual and three 1.2 ohm 2ml Tripod cartridges contained within the power bank Russian doll style along with the mod.

This is why it’s called Tripod, but the name could equally be because that’s what it is to write about or because thats how many colours it comes in.

No part of it is triangular though and the charging case is actually hexagonal.

As for those colours, they’re all lovely – all of them, particularly the way they fade on the charging case. All three are anodised and they’re all metallic and shimmery. One is completely Black, the other two are metallic Green, and Gold fading to Black at the bottom – and even that’s nice, the bottom that is… not the Gold, although that’s good too.

On the base you’ll find a rim of pretty LEDs and a sensor in the middle to wake it up.

The coils and pods are all one-piece proprietary affairs, locking you into the Uwell ecosystem, but then this is a device built for convenience and the uninitiated, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise.

On that front, another convenient aspect of the power bank is that it also operates as a nice little case for the device and its pods with a two-sided pull-out draw that houses the device on one side and three different spare cartridges on the reverse, enabling you to have three different juice flavours on the go – which is quite a nice little touch.

As for the vaping, it’s all very nice. You can use normal freebase or nicotine salts and it supposedly controls the heating temperature to enhance the flavour too.

The lip feel is very nice, with the mouthpiece being an almost full width affair but equally very narrow because the unit itself is so small.

The hand feel is also very nice – it’s a nicely elongated, flattened, slightly hexagonal affair made from smooth aluminium and perfectly sized for a fiddler like me.

It’s so small it’s often almost unnoticeable.

There are multiple built-in protections in both the pod and the base as you’d expect for a newbie device, and both will protect you from short circuits and indicate low power.

The draw is nicely warm at a static 11w but a little to open for a true MTL experience.

With no air-flow control either, there is no means of changing it and is the one major drawback of the device. In this respect it really is a bit of a throwback to the old cig-a-likes.

But that said, the sheer pocketability of this device makes it worth having and this is a lovely little beginners device.
