Introduction

Firstly and most importantly – because this is a mech-mod, please make sure you know what you’re doing. Learn about ohms law, research your batteries and buy them somewhere reputable, keep the batteries in good condition and check your build on a regulated mod or vape building tab before putting the RDA anywhere near the mod. If you’re not totally confident on any of those steps, then don’t use a mech-mod. I’m sorry if this sounds like I’m preaching, but I’d rather see everyone stay safe.

This is my first mech-mod review. I took a lot of care, did my research, double checked everything and took everything slowly.

What is it?

The Requiem BF kit consists of a single 18650 mech squonk mod and a new version of the 22mm Requiem single-coil RDA.

First impressions

Small and heavy – as soon as I had the Requiem mod in my hands, I understood the appeal of mech mods, it’s absolutely tiny. The mod is also so much heavier than I imagined, despite the tiny size, it’s built like a tank, the frame and door panel are thick and heavy.

Mod review

Being a mech-mod, there isn’t an abunance of features or tricks to speak about – but it does seem to be generally well thought out.

The fire button is locked from within the mod for safety, I’m sure some people would prefer to have an external lock, but I liked the idea of something that I wasn’t going to unlock unless I really wanted to.

The 510 pin is adjustable from the inside, rather than spring-loaded. Adjusting it is easy and while I’m sure it’s a better way to get a connection, it isn’t as convenient as a spring-loaded 510.

It will take up to 24mm RDAs, anything larger will overhang – seeing as a lot of single-coil RDAs are 22mm this shouldn’t be an issue, but I really wanted to use my Mongrel RDA on it.

The 6ml square squonk bottles are particularly nice – material choice for squonk bottles is highly subjective, but for my tastes these are great. You have three choices for refilling, you can remove the cap as with most other bottles, you can remove a rubber bung from the side and refill while the bottle is in the mod, or you can just put juice directly into the tube. The rubber bung is a great idea, however in practice it results in mess half of the time.

The battery fits quite snugly, whether that is nice and snug or too tight will depend in part on how thick your battery wraps are.

The mod is quite nice, especially considering the price – the only problem I can imagine some people having is the weight. Even though it’s tiny, it’s really heavy.

RDA review

Is this the Requiem RDA V2, or is it the Requiem RDA lite? It could be either, depending on your perspective.

Unlike the original Requiem RDA that had three different top-caps/drip-tips that gave a choice between MTL/restricted DTL/DTL airflow, the version that comes with the Requiem BF kit has the airflow built into the deck. Of course, this makes the RDA far more limited in its scope, however it does mean that you’re no longer running the risk of melting the internal airflow due to it being plastic. It seems like a good trade-off to me.

The deck is quite simple, with big screws to capture the coils and a channel for your coiling rod – it’s all very fool proof.

One thing I wasn’t so keen on was the top-caps, getting two caps is good – but not when they are both plastic, one metal and one plastic would have been much nicer.

With a lot of kits, the atomizer is really an afterthought and not worth having. While the Requiem isn’t the best single-coil RDA out there, it’s certainly worth using and owning, it’s an easy build, has nice open airflow and most importantly gives the decent flavor that you’d expect from a single-coil RDA.
