Packaging & Contents

The Luxe XR Max by Vaporesso comes in a cardboard box with an outer sleeve. On top of the sleeve is the Vaporesso logo in bright green in the background, with printed branding and the Luxe XR Max title above and below. In the middle is an image of the device matching the colour of the device inside the box. Also printed in the top corner, is an embossed seal stating it is ‘Luxe X’ Pod and GTX Coil compatible. Each side of the outer sleeve is bright Green. On the left side is an authenticity label and on the right side are five printed key features of the device.

On the bottom of the outer sleeve are the printed title, specifications, packing list, contact info, and warnings. There is also a printed barcode which also specifies the colour of the XR Max. The inner box slides out to reveal the contents.

Luxe XR Max Device

The Luxe XR Max by Vaporesso is a portable pod device measuring 106.5mm high, 32.1mm in width, and a depth of 26mm. It appears more chunky than its Luxe X and Luxe XR brothers due to its bigger internal battery of 2800mAh which has a maximum 80W output. The charging current is 5V/2A DC via the Type-C cable. The device uses Vaporesso’s popular AXON chip and includes a 0.54″ OLED screen with 2 x RGB LED strips (one on each side of the display).

The body of the device is made of strong alloy with PCTG panels on each side. The front of the device has a power/fire button above one of the gradient-smoked window panels. This panel has the main display screen behind it, as well as the RGB strips that light up the circuits. The display includes the current wattage power with a battery level above. Under the power is the puff counter which switches to the vape time when the fire button is pressed. Under the display screen is an up-and-down touch button adjustment built into the panel. This utilises a touchscreen function so there aren’t visible buttons showing for these, just the up and down arrows behind the smoked panel.

Around the back of the Luxe XR Max is a Vaporesso etched log on the body with another gradient smoked panel underneath. Unlike the front of the device, this one is simply a design panel with a translucent ‘Luxe’ logo in the window. The left side of the device has an etched ‘Vaporesso’ on the body and a small airflow hole. On the right side is an adjustable airflow control slider. On the very bottom is the Type-C charge port and right at the top, is where the pod slots in. More about the pods and coils soon.

Vaporesso’s Luxe XR Max kit comes in 7 colours; White (as reviewed), Black, Silver, Grey, Green, Blue or Red.

Luxe XR Max Settings

The Luxe XR Max uses Vaporesso’s AXON chip and COREX Heating Tech. It does come with a short user menu to adjust a few of the settings. To switch the device on or off, it is the usual 5 fast clicks of the power/fire button. The device will automatically read the coil resistance and set the wattage to the best level of power using its Smart function. You can manually alter the wattage by pressing the power/fire button 3 times in succession, and then pressing up or down to the desired wattage, via the touchscreen buttons below the display. Pressing the power/fire button again saves the wattage level.

To access the menu, press the power/fire button 4 times in quick succession. Select the menu option by the up and down touch buttons and then press the power/fire button to select. Pressing power/fire button again will save that option in the menu.

  • LED – Turns the LED strips on or off within the front panel.
  • Smart – Turns on or off the Auto resistance Smart Mode.
  • Puff – Rests the puff counter number.
  • Exit – Back to the main display screen.

The LEDs will also light different colours depending on the battery level. At 60-100% it will light in Green-Cyan, at 30-60% it will light Cyan-Blue and at 0-30% it will light Blue-Rose Red.

The device only fires via the button and doesn’t have an auto-draw function. Being a regulated system, the AXON chip has all the usual safety features including low and high resistance, short circuit, no load and overtime protections.

Luxe XR Max Pods & GTX Coils

The Luxe XR Max comes with two refillable pods in the kit that run with replaceable Vaporesso GTX coils that simply push up into the pod to change. There are different pods which depend on the style of vaping you are opting for. There is a Restricted Direct to Lung (RDL) and a Direct to Lung (DTL) included, but you can also purchase a Mouth to Lung (MTL) pod separately.

The pods are the same width obviously to fit the device, but there is a bit more height and ‘chunkiness’ as it goes from RDL to DTL pod. The DTL pod also has a wider bore running from the middle chamber to the top. Both included pods have a 5ml juice capacity but a TPD 2ml if buying the kit from Europe. The pods are built with smoked PCTG and simply refill via a removable rubber bung, right on the bottom of the pod.

This range of pods runs with Vaporesso’s popular GTX coil range. 2 of these coils are supplied in the kit. One a 0.2Ω Mesh and the other a slightly higher 0.4Ω Mesh GTX coil. Both of these coils are suitable for DTL and RDTL vaping. A very good factor in these pods is they run universally across the Luxe X pod kit platform, which includes the Luxe X, the Luxe XR and the Luxe XR Max. There is also a newer Luxe XR Pro which I am guessing is also included in the pod-compatable line-up.

My Thoughts

I have used the Luxe XR Max mostly daily for the last 3 weeks or so. Like the variations before it, it is a great little pod system and much improved from the first Luxe X, which like the XR, uses GTX replaceable coils. The device is a definite upgrade but this one is definitely aimed at the more Direct to Lung vaper, due to the pods/coils supplied and its whooping 2800mAh battery with 80W power. 80W for a small portable pod system with an internal battery is pretty powerful in the current market. That being said, mouth-to-lung vapers can take advantage of that high battery power and get much more battery time out of it; just purchase the MTL pods separately and the higher resistance GTX coils, and you’re set!

The Luxe XR is comfortable to use and still portable enough to throw into a pocket. It looks stylish with its little light set-up reflecting off of the circuitry. The menu is easy to use with its few options and is pretty much a plug-and-play with its smart function to read the resistance of the coil. The airflow control on the side has a chunky slider so you can easily set the perfect amount of airflow to the vape. The internal battery lasts a good while depending on the power you are vaping at and charges fast within about 30-40 minutes from a flat battery.

The colour of the Luxe XR being reviewed is listed as White, but it is more of a Magnolia White as opposed to a bold bright White colour. Even so, it has a nice glossy finish to the device.

As for the pods and coils, these work brilliantly and a bonus is that you can universally use the whole Luxe X pods family. The GTX coils are a range that I will ALWAYS recommend! They quickly became probably my favourite stock coil. Even across all the resistance options they come with, they offer amazing flavour, good clouds and last a good while compared to other stock coils. Voopoo’s PnP coil has seen massive popularity over the years but I would rate the GTX line much higher. I’ve even bought bridges for the Billet Box just to be able to use GTX coils in there. It is great to see that Vaporesso eventually added replacement GTX coils for the Luxe Pod range.

All in all, the Luxe XR Max is a very good kit if you want something smaller for DTL/RDTL vaping and if you are an MTL vaper, the kit is still a good option, just make sure you get the MTL pods separately and higher resistance GTX coils. I tried using the RDTL pod with a 0.8Ω for MTL and it just gurgled at lower power, so definitely opt for the MTL pod size if you intend on vaping that way.
