Uwell Tripod Review by Antony-Cover

Healthcabin has sent over the latest starter kit from Uwell for me to take a look at, the Tripod PCC kit. This is a little unusual for a mouth to lung starter kit in that it includes the portable charge case (PCC) which would often be an optional extra in many other kits of this nature, indeed it’s absolutely key to using it at all.

It comes in standard Uwell packaging with a sturdy plastic box covered by an outer cardboard sleeve, unboxing a Uwell product always feels a little special and this also ensures that your kit should arrive unscathed. At first glance there doesn’t seem to be much included here as besides the octagonal PCC there’s only a small USB cable and an instruction leaflet but that’s because most of the goodies are actually concealed within the PCC itself.

Lift up the top of the PCC and you’ll be presented with the Tripod pod/battery with two spare Pods stored on the other side. This opens up multiple possibilities here especially if you like to change flavours over the course of the day with different pods, alternatively you have several weeks worth of pods on hand at all times.

The actual pod itself is teeny with a 370mah battery which can only be charged via the PCC itself using a series of POGO pins on the bottom of the case. Whilst it’s charging the led indicator on the pod will light up along with the ring of leds on the base of the PCC showing the charge status of both items. The PCC boasts a 1000mah battery so you get multiple recharges of the pod and I found that I could easily get a couple of days use here between charges.

You can easily determine the charge status of the PCC by tapping the base which will light up the ring of status LEDs on the bottom and when it comes to charging mine peaked at around 1.6amps with 1316mah recorded in around 1 hour 20 mins (with a completely flat pod and PCC).
This does of course add to the overall size of the kit, the PCC is around the size of a single 21700 box mod for reference, which means it’s not necessarily the most pocketable “stealth vaping” kit although it’s lightweight at just 97grams all in to offset this somewhat. You could of course just take the Tripod pod with you and leave the PCC at home but one drawback with that is there’s no way to charge it independently of the PCC so you’re going to be a bit stuck if you run out of charge!

The PCTG Pods are press fit into the Tripod and have a 2ml capacity with an integrated 1.2ohm coil using the Uwell ProFOCS system which is supposed to recycle any condensation into the coil and give a better overall experience. Uwell has a reputation for making good coils and this is no exception with outstanding flavour coming from the fairly restricted mouth to lung vape on this draw activated system. The draw activation has also been very consistent and performed very well here.

Filling has been easy with a decent sized fill port on the side however there has definitely been some condensation build up under the Pod as you can see in the photo above so I’d advise giving everything a wipe down whilst you’re filling up.

I can’t find the coil material stated anywhere but I have started to develop a few mouth ulcers this week so I’m beginning to suspect this might be a nichrome coil especially as the last MTL tank I had from UWell used nichrome coils and I know the other kit I’ve been testing this week uses kanthal! This might be worth bearing in mind if you’re nickel sensitive!

Pros

  • Great flavourful MTL vape
  • Long battery life
  • 3 pods included

Cons

  • No way to charge the pod outside the PCC
  • Condensation under pods
  • Coil material not stated

Conclusion

Another great kit from Uwell, the Tripod PCC kit ticks a lot of boxes especially with the fairly attractive pricing. This would be perfect for someone looking to move away from cigarettes as their first kit with its simple operation and sleek design.

Many thanks to Healthcabin for sending the Tripod PCC kit out for review. As always they’ve asked me to remind you that to see the best prices on their site you need to be logged into your Healthcabin account.
